Nigerian writers have been urged to take advantage of the unique offerings of the National Library to keep their works for posterity.
The Ogun State Director of the National Library, Abeokuta, Dr. Modupe Sangosanya, stated this at the March General Meeting of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Ogun State Branch held at the Simeon Adebo Library, Abeokuta.
She said authors have the opportunity of collecting two International Standard Book Number (ISBN) in a year while publishers can get ten numbers.
On registration of International State Serial Number (ISSN) for journals, Dr. Sangosanya advised publishers to submit copies which will be sent to Abuja for title checks before approval.
She condemned the attitude of writers’ reluctance to give copies as legal deposits.
Dr. Sangosanya said the National Library regularly embarked on sensitisation visits to schools to encourage reading and publication by young writers and assist to establish libraries in rural areas.
Earlier, the State Chairman of ANA, Chief Abiodun Lasile while welcoming the Director, National Library, Abeokuta thanked her for honouring ANA’s invitation and asked for closer collaboration.
