Alhaji Chief Abdul Ganiyu Oyewole Alani EGBEYEMI, was born in the Egbeyemi Family Compound, Oke Ago Owu on the 4th of February 1934 to Chief Raimi Ishola Egbeyemi (later Aare Ona Kakanfo of Owu) and Madam Falilat Anike Egbeyemi née Oloyede. His grandfather was the highly regarded and celebrated Eekerin of Egba and Balogun of Owu, Chief Aminu Atanda Egbeyemi.
Alhaji Gani Egbeyemi had his primary education at Owu Baptist Day School and later went to Ilesha Grammar School for his secondary Education, whilst living with his Aunt, Mrs Faramobi Kuponiyi.
He joined the Nigerian Railways Corporation in the 60s, before joining the civil service of the Western Region having obtained a Diploma in Public Administration from the Institute of Administration of the then University of Ife.At the creation of Ogun State in 1976, he was among the first team that accompanied the Military Governor, Ltd.Col Seidu Ayodele Balogun to Abeokuta, as the pioneer Protocol Officer seconded from his role as the Supervisor of Catering Guest Houses in the Western Region. Alhaji Egbeyemi had a distinguished civil service career in Ogun State, holding several public admin offices culminating in his appointment as Director General (Permanent Secretary) in 1988, under the Administration of Navy Captain Mohammed Alabi Lawal. He retired from service in 1992 and ventured into politics.
Alhaji Gani Egbeyemi was an avid sport man, he played Badminton till old age, and was at some point, the South West Chairman of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN). He was a member of the prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club, where he was elected President twice and later appointed as a Vice Patron of the Club.
He was conferred with the traditional title of Balogun Owutedo and Aare Sobaloju of Owu Kingdom.
A devout Muslim, he was a founding worshiper of the Secretariat Muslim Community. He was married to Chief (Mrs) ‘Yinka Egbeyemi, a seasoned and distinguished School Administrator, who also retired as a Principal in the service of Ogun State Government and an awardee of “Best Principal Award” in Ogun State.
