I celebrate and pay glowing tributes, to a distinguished personality, foremost legal luminary, renowned Minister of Justice and one time judge at the international court of justice, Hague, Omooba Bola Ajibola, the founder of the popular Crescent University.
The tributes to the sweet memories of this legend, with enduring and enviable legacies is to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Crescent University.
Before the university, the great crown prince had established an institution to foster the teaching of Islam and Arabic, with a view to promoting understanding, tolerance and accommodation, for peaceful coexistence.20 years ago, I was privileged to host Baba, on an NTA Abeokuta programme, ” Frankly Speaking”. It was quite stimulating, exciting and unforgettable.
He disclosed how the land, on which the university was built, was acquired manually many decades ago. He vouched to give all it would take to establish the university. In his words;
“If it means selling my underwears”. It was a strong determination, commitment and selfless sacrifice.
Today the citadel of learning is contributing to the development of Human resources and the nation.
A great humanist and philanthropist, Omooba Bola Ajibola also donated a multimillion naira trauma centre to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
I celebrate the Crescent University at 20.
May Allah SWT continue to grant him Aljaana Firdaus.
Omooba Bola Ajibola was a rare breed.
