At the closing ceremony of the 8th First Bank/Olusegun Obasanjo Golf Tournament held at Abeokuta Golf Club, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo delivered a thoughtful message on wellbeing, healthy living, and longevity.
In his speech, he emphasised that long life is not accidental but a product of conscious living, discipline, and balance. He identified key pillars necessary for healthy ageing and sustainable wellbeing:
• Proper Diet
• Adequate Rest
• Regular Exercise
• Routine Medical Check-up at least twice yearly
• Healthy Social Interaction
• Contentment
According to Chief Obasanjo, these simple but powerful principles form the true recipe for longevity. In a world increasingly burdened by stress, unhealthy competition, anxiety, and lifestyle-related illnesses, his message served as a reminder that wealth and success mean little without sound health and inner peace.
The atmosphere at the Abeokuta Golf Club reflected not only sportsmanship and recreation but also the importance of physical fitness, fellowship, and mental wellness among individuals and communities.
Among the dignitaries at the event were HRM Oba Dr Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR Okukenu IV the Alake and Paramount Ruler, Chief Abiodun Lasile Orunto Baalufe Owu Kingdom Abeokuta representing HRM Oba Prof Saka Adelola Matemilola FNSE Otileta Vll Olowu Oluyalo of Owu Kingdom Abeokuta, representatives of the sponsor the First Bank, Pro Golfers, invited guests and members.
Longevity is not merely about adding years to life, but adding value, strength, peace, and usefulness to those years.
