Why do I seem to attract so much hatred and resentment? Why are hatred and ill will so heavily directed at me?
— Chief Abiodun Lasile DL MnbR
This question has occupied my thoughts over time.
To the best of my ability, I have chosen the path of truthfulness. I have striven to live uprightly, lifted others without asking for a reward, supported genuine causes, and devoted myself to selfless service. These are not occasional acts; they have become my way of life.
Yet, despite these efforts, some people remain committed to gossip, falsehood, resentment, and unwarranted hostility. Such behaviour, however, has neither diminished my resolve nor hindered my progress. If anything, it has strengthened my conviction that purpose must never be abandoned because of opposition.
The Yoruba elders wisely remind us:
“Igi tó bá ga, afẹ́fẹ́ ló máa ń kọ́kọ́ lù.”
The tallest tree is the first to be struck by the wind.
And again:
“Bí ènìyàn bá ń ṣe rere, kò túmọ̀ sí pé gbogbo ènìyàn yóò fẹ́ràn rẹ.”
Doing good does not guarantee that everyone will love you.
I have therefore resolved to remain steadfast in good character, for reputation built on truth outlives rumours built on envy. Gossip fades, but integrity endures. Hatred is temporary, but a life of purpose leaves a legacy.
My successes and unprecedented achievements have not been stopped by those who speak behind my back. Instead, they have reaffirmed a timeless truth: when one’s path is guided by sincerity, diligence, and divine grace, opposition may slow the journey, but it cannot stop the destination.
My prayer is “May my life continue to be defined not by the voices of detractors, but by the enduring testimony of my character and service.”
