As a cultural ambassador, I had the privilege of discussing the evolution and future of our cultural heritage. To move forward, we must strike a balance between modernization and preservation, ensuring that our culture remains vibrant and inclusive.
The key to success lies in broad participation, economic empowerment, and strategic event planning. I commend the innovative approaches incorporated into the festival, particularly the fusion of fashion and scenic pavilion design. The festival’s ambiance is a testament to Egba’s tourism potential, showcasing the richness of our cultural values and warm hospitality. By embracing our heritage, we can attract visitors and diasporas, fostering a sense of community and shared identity.
The Owu Kingdom Abeokuta delegation was led by HRM Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, FNSE, Otileta VII, Olowu Oluyalo, and high-ranking chiefs, who added grandeur to the event via the King’s Walkway. Notably, Chief Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR attended in his esteemed capacity as Balogun Owu and Ogbongbodu Ebora Owu general, donning elaborate regalia.
For context, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom is a paramount Yoruba king, with the current monarch, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, tracing his lineage back to the kingdom’s founder, Ajibosin. The Owu Kingdom is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, with distinctive characteristics such as fashionability, steadfastness, honesty and unique dialect.
